The Book of Kells
A Modern Interpretation
A modern interpretation of a page from Ireland’s national treasure, The Book of Kells. Contextualizing it into the present day, applying the visual aesthetic of contemporary art and design. Concept for Trinity College Dublin Competition, exhibiting the illuminated manuscripts.
The challenge was to find a balance in incorporating a contemporary visual style through a digital medium, yet, ensuring it was still recognizable.
The original illustrations were used as a reference in how to treat colour, shapes, forms and motifs. Taking inspiration from one of the most influential visual art styles of the early twentieth century: Cubism, and the most influential educational establishment in the fields of architecture, art and design: Bauhaus. Both styles of which are influenced by simplified geometric shapes and forms.
